What is Gateway Reconciliation?

September 30, 2024

What is payment gateway reconciliation and what are some of the key issues involved? Payment Gateway reconciliation is the process of transferring transaction data from third-party payment providers to your business’s ERP and verifying its accuracy. In the beginning, many web stores simply put a PayPal button on their website so customers can pay, and when they do, the store receives money on its account. However, as they grow, stores often build connections with third-party payment platforms like Stripe to give their customers more payment options. Those service providers take care of transactions and then pay out the money they collect for the store. Then, payment data has to be transferred to the store’s ERP. Once that happens, the store needs to double-check the record is complete, confirm those transactions were paid out, and calculate associated fees. This is a simple explanation of gateway reconciliation, and it has the potential to be a very complex challenge for businesses.
